I first discovered DJ Nader while cruising the MySpace sites looking for inspirational DJs and musicians. Being from the House and Dance music scene I was looking for something with a decent bass and a hard drum. I also wanted to incorporate dance and arabic music - DJ Nader instantly grabbed my attention. He was brought up with traditional arabic music and in one of his interviews actually stated that he wanted to merge Western House with Middle Eastern sounds. Many of the tracks he has chosen for both Evolution and Music for the Hips does his dream justice. There are Middle Eastern pop tunes such as Im Hamada, Linda Linda, El Helwa Di, Leily Lail and Sidi Mansour to name but a few, but which we should all recognise from dance classes and haflas. These are given a new twist by adding additional Western dance rhythms making them easily accessable and recognisable to Western audiences. I recognised some of the old Acid House classics instantly being mixed in, in-between songs, which instantly raises your heartbeat and makes you want to dance! The style of mixing that DJ Nader uses is very typical of dance DJs. He starts off very slow, easing you into the tune (chooooone), building into a cresendo of tablas, zills and ouds before slipping in a tiny sample of the legendary Lebanese singer Fairuz, as a tribute, on the final track. If, like me, you're new to the Arabic music scene, this gives you a wonderful opportunity to sample and experience what's on offer at an easy listening level as I found it easy to relate to and is a good introduction to the genre.

The albums are available from ebay and amazon.com .

DJ Nader plays in a club in California and has his own myspace site and website which has a sample of his music so you can listen before you buy. However, they are so reasonably priced that it's well worth buying both albums.
