The much anticipated follow-up to Kammel Kalamak, El Lilady (Tonight) is Amr Diab's third album with the Rotana record label. Delayed for a year due to reported changes of producers, it has already sold over 2 million copies in the Middle East since it's release in July.
The album starts with Ne'oul Aih, an obvious choice for the first single as it's a catchy dance number with a riff you'll find yourself humming for months to come. The accompanying video was filmed in California for a cool $1m. El Lilady is a wonderful mix of Latin rhythms in songs such as the title track and Hikayat, and club style dance tracks such as Inta El Ghaly. More 'traditional' Arab pop songs are also included with songs like Toul Ma Ana Shaifak and Dehket. Whatever pains Amr went through in the creation of this album were worth it as the end result is a must for any serious collector of Middle Eastern music. Easily accessible to the Western ear, each song is beautifully crafted and is the perfect showcase for Amr's voice. If you're already a fan - buy it now. If you have yet to discover him, start with this album and you won't be disappointed. Highly Recommended. Available from MAQAM®, and HMV.
